When it comes to 5G technology, the feature was only available to a handful of smartphones, and that too in the premium smartphone segment, where the smartphones used high-end chipsets from Qualcomm. However, Qualcomm is now working on bringing a new and much more affordable 5G chipset to the market, which would make 5G enabled smartphones accessible to more people, especially for those who do not want to spend a fortune on premium flagships. Qualcomm has recently announced their new chipset, the Snapdragon 480 5G platform, which is a great processor, more affordable, and the first 5G processor in the series.
As per their official statement in the press release, “Snapdragon 480 continues to help drive the further proliferation of 5G, allowing users access to truly global 5G connectivity.” As per them, bringing 5G technology in the 4-series chipset will help in making the next-generation networking standard more accessible to users globally. The chipset is a successor to Snapdragon 460, and the new Snapdragon 480 will be productive longer and recharge faster. The chipset is based on the 8nm architecture and the first to support Quick Charge 4 Plus as well. The chipset will also support 120fps FHD+ panels, the first to offer 64-megapixel still images.
The chipset has the support for a triple camera setup on the rear and can shoot three photos at once. As per Kedar Kondap, Vice President, Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, “the Snapdragon 480 5G Mobile Platform will exceed OEM’s and consumer’s expectations in delivering high- and mid-tier features at an affordable price.“” On this, the Product Manager of Oppo, Brenda said that “We are excited to leverage the new Snapdragon 480 5G Mobile Platform to scale consumer access to and use of 5G globally.“” The smartphone with this chipset is expected to roll out in early 2021.
