CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) has recently issued a warning to all the Apple device owners in India to update their device to the latest version of iOS 14.7.1 and iPadOS 14.7.1. The warning has been issued specifically to iPhone and iPad users. The CERT team has been able to detect a vulnerability that can provide the hackers with complete control of the device with kernel privileges and the update is the only way to fix their devices and protect them from such attacks.
The issue has been found to affect the iPhone 6s and all later handsets. The same issue will also affect all the iPad models and it was also found in devices with macOS Big Sur which has been resolved in its version number macOS Big Sur 11.5.1. It is a memory corruption vulnerability that only affects Apple devices and allows the hackers to gain remote access to the device. Since the issue has already been reported globally by many users, everyone has been asked to update their device immediately to the new version.
To update the device, one can simply go to Settings>>General>>Software Update. If you own an Apple device, especially a mobile or iPad, then it is recommended that you must look for the latest update and download it. CERT will also update more about the status of the vulnerability in the future, but it seems like the update is good enough to resolve the issue for now. Mac users can update the device by going into System preferences from the Apple menu, under Software update.
